The fourth house, and in a deeper sense, the qualities of moksha are difficult understand because we spend so little of our time or attention on them. It is very tempting to start attaching actions to every facet of life. Yet, actions really come through masculine principles of planets, signs and houses. So now we are discovering not only are planets and signs masculine and feminine -- but also the houses are odd and even - masculine and feminine. Yes, it gets rather tricky.
The fourth house specifically, as a moksha House, does not seek, or flight for peace. It is the awareness of peace -- is the level of emotional peace -- it is the feeling of peace. It is the need for peace. It is the need to retreat from the stimulation of the world if we are to grow.
A fourth house crisis will show a person who cannot relax and who is out of touch with the emotional core that senses when change is needed. Such a person will not make proper adjustments in the activities (third house) that are causing the unrest. Also, such individuals will therefore not be growing and expanding (fifth house) the things that bring about greater peace and fulfillment.
As we learned last night's class, those third house interests that grow into fifth house affairs and romances lead to desire-filled relationships entanglements (seventh house). The domino effect of our relationship partners and choices have their origin back in this first section of the zodiac -- the Self section. We've all heard that we can't have a good relationship with another person until we know our self. Well, here's how to see that through astrology.
If we are hanging out in bars and strip clubs we are to meet a certain type of person. If we hang out at art museums and cultural events we will meet another type of person. If we hang out at church or spiritual community we will meet a different type of person. These are all expressions of values (second house) which leads to interests like-minded cohorts (third house), which leads to a level of peace and happiness, etc.
The fourth house itself however is a place of receptivity, intuition and feeling. Fourth house expressions are things like crying, laughing, relaxing, emotional anxiety, meditation. These states of awareness COMPEL us into action, but the fourth house itself is not active, it is passive - perhaps the most passive of all. As the first house is your body and presence in the moment, your fourth house is how you feel in the moment.
The wisdom of that perceptive awareness and the necessity to listen to it and the need to eventually be receptive to everything is the fourth house. Our perceptive mind only wants one thing, peace. In a yogic sense, once we are peaceful (with no thought waves and distractions) we rest in our true nature. This is why the fourth house is the first moksha house - the house of personal liberation - freedom FROM our personal Self.
